We are pleased to report that the Arc of East Middlesex has received a $10,000.00 grant from the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. Funds will be used to provide scholarships to families of teens and young adults with autism to attend the Journey to Independence Program.
We are now offering “Buy one weekend get one weekend free scholarships” while funds are available. Using a Real World House in Andover, the program offers instruction in practical skills such as planning, leisure, safety and communication skills.
Through the support of families and organizations like the Flutie Foundation our programs continue to grow and continue to succeed in life after high school.
For scholarship information and program availability, please contact Nancy Desmond Nastasi at 781-942-4888, ext. 5036.

In response to the growing need to teach older teens and young adults the skills they need as they Journey to Independence, The Arc of East Middlesex has created a new program called Real World House 2006.
For Families: This new program is based on the principle that individuals with learning challenges benefit by continuous reinforcement and the introduction of new concepts. Since the road to independence is a journey and not a short trip, The Arc of East Middlesex’s Journey to Independence will support and work together with families and schools to achieve positive outcomes for its participants.
This weekend, school vacation and overnight program will be fun, giving participants the opportunity to be in the Real World House. Its focus, however, will be on the acquisition of the skills necessary to live and work in our community. Using a beautiful home in Andover as our base, we will teach health, money, cooking, cleaning, employment, leisure and safety skills.
The Cost: The entire program is $350.00. A deposit of $178.00 is required at registration. Families may use family support funding. To register contact Nancy Nastasi at (781) 942-4888 Ext. 5036.
